At first, many people were confused.  Why Orthodoxy?  Why not, say, Catholicism or Anglicanism – both closer to home and easier to live?  Eventually, people accepted this new thing that was a part of me – or, rather, that I was a part of.

This is my tenth year since I found the Orthodox Church and asked to be a part of it.  Not everything has been easy, but I haven’t regretted a second.

I wrote this book to help people see what I’ve seen, to experience what I’ve experienced, to help people get closer to God, One who loves them dearly – loving them so much that He became human, to sanctify our nature; died and rose from the dead, to destroy the power of sin and death over us; and ascended into heaven, to bring human nature to God.

In the Orthodox Church, we can look at our history with some level of thanksgiving.  We’re able to trace our founding to Jesus and the Apostles, through the persecutions of the Roman Empire, through the Ecumenical Councils and evangelising the same empire that persecuted Christians, through the spread of the Church through Europe – Western and Eastern – through renewed persecution and, finally, through to the present day.  An unbroken chain of bishops, an unbroken chain of people being baptised, communed, married and buried, an unbroken chain of people following the teachings of Christ within the Church He founded.
