10 Simple Commands
A couple of years ago, I presented a series of short talks on the Ten Commandments. Since then, I’ve taken the ideas from these talks and re-presented them to you, the reader.
The Ten Commandments are part of God’s revelation to humanity for the right and proper conduct of His followers. While these can be summarised into two laws, as Jesus does, this summary relies on knowing what love is. This is where a longer version, with explanation, of the commandments may be of benefit, particularly in a society that has lost what it is that love is.
Worshipping the Personal Truth: A short introduction, with the first two commandments (concerning Who God is and idolatry).
Time for a Relationship: The third and fourth commandments, concerning the misuse of God’s name, an application of the Sabbath for us today and the relationship that we should have with God, that would preclude any misuse or lack of rest.
Adversity and Family: The fifth commandment, concerning how adversity creates strong relationships, and the adversity faced in the process of creating a child makes for strong family bonds.
A New and Greater Calling: The sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth commandments, and how each of these have been transformed in the light of Christ – so that now, our morality is about our intention, not just on our actions.
